POP3/SMTP gateways for webmail

Some webmail accounts (such as Yahoo) have non-standard mail protocols. So to access them, you'll need a web browser, or software from that provider. However, there are "gateway" conversion programs which allow you to download messages from those accounts to a standard POP3 email client. Some gateway programs include SMTP features for outgoing messages as well. (NOTE: AOL now offers IMAP access; Hotmail offers POP3 access; and Gmail offers both.)
